What is Technical Analysis?

Technical analysis studies price and volume history to judge where a market is likely to go next. Its starting assumption is that what traders know and feel is already reflected in the price, and that their behaviour leaves repeatable patterns on the chart.

The core tools are trend (higher highs and higher lows, or the reverse), support and resistance levels, chart patterns, and indicators calculated from price such as moving averages, RSI and MACD.

No indicator predicts the future. Technical analysis is most useful for defining where a trade idea is wrong — the stop — and where the reward justifies the risk.

  • Moving averages (EMA/SMA) smooth price to show trend direction.
  • RSI measures momentum; readings above 70 or below 30 are commonly called overbought and oversold.

Technical Analysis සිංහලෙන් — chart එක කියවන්නේ කොහොමද?

Technical analysis කියන්නේ පසුගිය මිල සහ volume දත්ත අධ්‍යයනය කරලා market එක ඊළඟට යන්න පුළුවන් දිශාව ගැන තීරණය කිරීම. Traders ලාගේ හැසිරීම chart එකේ නැවත නැවත පෙනෙන රටා (patterns) හදනවා කියන එක තමයි මේකේ පදනම.

ප්‍රධාන මෙවලම් තමයි trend එක, support සහ resistance levels, chart patterns සහ moving average, RSI, MACD වගේ indicators.

Technical Analysis — frequently asked questions

Does technical analysis actually work?

It works as a framework for managing risk and timing entries, not as a prediction machine. Traders who profit from it usually combine a small number of tools with strict risk management and a written plan.

Which indicator is best for beginners?

Start with price itself — trend and support/resistance — then add one moving average. Adding many indicators tends to produce conflicting signals rather than better ones.
