A pip is the standard unit of price movement in forex — 0.0001 for most pairs and 0.01 for yen pairs. A standard lot is 100,000 units of the base currency, a mini lot 10,000 and a micro lot 1,000. On EUR/USD one standard lot moves about $10 per pip, so a 20-pip move on 0.10 lots is about $20, roughly Rs 5,500 at current rates.
| Lot | Units | Approx. value per pip on EUR/USD |
|---|---|---|
| Standard (1.00) | 100,000 | $10 |
| Mini (0.10) | 10,000 | $1 |
| Micro (0.01) | 1,000 | $0.10 |
Pip value = pip size × lot size in units, expressed in the quote currency. For EUR/USD: 0.0001 × 100,000 = $10 per pip for one standard lot. For USD/JPY: 0.01 × 100,000 = ¥1,000 per pip, which you convert to dollars at the current rate. To get rupees, multiply the dollar value by the USD/PKR rate — at about Rs 277 per dollar, $10 is roughly Rs 2,770.
Beginners often trade 0.50 or 1.00 lots on small accounts because apps make it easy. On a $500 account, one standard lot of EUR/USD loses $10 per pip — a normal 50-pip move costs $500, the entire account. Calculating lot size from your stop-loss is the single most important habit in leveraged trading. Remember too that offshore forex brokers are not regulated in Pakistan and most scholars consider leveraged forex impermissible.
Values for pairs where the US dollar is the quote currency are fixed; for others they vary with the exchange rate. Gold values assume a 100-ounce standard lot — confirm your broker's contract size.
| Lot size | EUR/USD, GBP/USD (per pip) | XAUUSD (per $1 move) |
|---|---|---|
| 0.01 | ≈ $0.10 | ≈ $1 |
| 0.05 | ≈ $0.50 | ≈ $5 |
| 0.10 | ≈ $1 | ≈ $10 |
| 0.50 | ≈ $5 | ≈ $50 |
| 1.00 | ≈ $10 | ≈ $100 |

A fractional pip — the fifth decimal on most pairs (0.00001). Many platforms quote prices to this precision.
On EUR/USD, 0.01 lot is about $0.10 per pip — roughly Rs 28 at about Rs 277 per dollar.
Whatever size makes a stop-loss cost 1% or less of the account — usually 0.01 to 0.02 lots on small accounts.
The pip size is 0.0001 on most pairs and 0.01 on yen pairs, but pip value in dollars differs by pair and exchange rate.
